National Swipe Out Hunger Program
Swipe Out Hunger is a nation-wide program that partners with colleges to help put an end to student hunger and assist those who struggle with food insecurity. Student Assistance and Support Services has partnered with Leadership & Community Engagement, Chartwells Dining Services, Auxiliary Services, and the Sustainability Office to bring this program to UNC Charlotte.
Eligibility for Swipe Out Hunger Program at UNC Charlotte
The Swipe Out Hunger Program aims to provide students who are food insecure, and/or who are experiencing an emergency situation, access to healthy and well-balanced meals in our campus dining halls. Students must demonstrate an extenuating need that warrants use of the program. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in classes during the current term of their inquiry. Additionally, if you have previously used the Swipe Out Hunger Program, you were informed via your confirmation email that you must have used all awarded swipes for that semseter to be eligible to utilize the program in the future.
If you meet this initial requirement and would like to complete a needs-based assessment to determine your further eligibility for the program, please email Student Assistance and Support Services (studentsupport@charlotte.edu) directly with your inquiry. Fall 2024 Program Update
Student Assistance and Support Services (SASS) begins accepting requests for the Swipe Out Hunger Program starting on the first date of classes for the relevant term. Please do not email prior to the semester beginning, as your request cannot be processed until classes are in session. Beginning on the first day of Fall 2024 classes, which is August 19, 2024, you may email studentsupport@charlotte.edu to inquire about the program. Your email should include specific information regarding why you are in need of this particular service.
Additional Resources
Student Assistance and Support Services (SASS) encourages students to utilize additional resources to meet their food needs, including the Jamil Niner Student Pantry. As of July 1, 2024, SASS provides oversight of the Jamil Niner Student Pantry. Students are encouraged to review information on the pantry website regarding scheduling appointments to shop at the pantry, volunteering at the pantry, and donating to the pantry.
